Confidence rising in small business sector

Small business confidence has now increased for three quarters in a row, with the ASBFEO Small Business Pulse rising 0.8% in the three months to November.

That might not sound like much, but it reflects a broader shift in mindset. With economic conditions stabilising and fewer rate rises on the horizon, business owners are leaning into growth, digital tools and succession planning.

Bruce Billson, the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, said there was real “momentum” building as entrepreneurs looked to transform their business models.

Enquiries about AI, e-commerce and automation remain high, especially from businesses wanting to free up time, boost compliance and expand their customer base.

There’s also been an uptick in interest around hiring, remote work and succession – with more operators investigating how to pass the reins to the next generation while keeping the family legacy strong.
