In a recent address to the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Commissioner of Taxation Rob Heferen discussed key changes to help small businesses with their tax obligations.
One major initiative is simplifying tax rules by embedding clearer guidelines directly into the software businesses use.
This aims to make tax compliance easier, providing greater certainty and less hassle.
Other pilot programs include:
* Encouraging more regular tax payments and reporting with stronger debt collection measures.
* Offering improved digital tools to help small businesses track and manage their taxes and overall performance.
Looking ahead, Heferen said the tax office is working toward a fully digitalised tax system to give business owners more time to focus on their business and less on tax.
