Here are five interesting facts about how employers recruit, according to Jobs & Skills Australia:
1. Around 67% of employers use a conventional method of recruitment, including an application and interview stage.
2. Of those who conducted interviews, more respondents said their interviews were “informal chats” than formal interviews. This includes both face-to-face chats as well as online.
3. By industry, employers in the healthcare and social assistance space favoured using both an application and interview process, with around 82% of recruitment in that industry using both. Comparatively, recruiters in manufacturing used the application and interview process the least (50%) in favour of informal chats or interviews only. (See image)
4. References are checked by 44% of employers. But 25% said they don't do any additional checks other than the application and interview.
5. Around 49% said the most important quality an employer looks for at the interview stage is the applicant’s approach and attitude to work. This was followed by whether the applicant would fit into the company culture, including their personality and look (around 43%).
