How to protect your business from hackers

Cyber criminals have small businesses in their sights, but 45% of business owners don’t consider themselves targets for cyber crime.

That was one of the key findings in research commissioned by the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia, Cyber Wardens and Commonwealth Bank.

The research also found the top three reported cyber crimes among small businesses were:

1. Email compromises like inbox break-ins

2. Fake invoices and payment redirection schemes

3. Banking fraud

Cyber Wardens, which trains businesses on cyber security, says there are at least four fundamental steps every business should implement to boost cyber security:

1. Multi-factor authentication

2. Strong password management

3. Automatic software updates

4. Effective backups to support recovery
